Our Team of Teachers...
Kristy Haapala, Executive Director
Kristy has been a part of WCC since 2006. She began as a PK teacher for 5 years. In 2010 she became our Assistant Director and navigated our newly implemented snack program while developing curriculum for preschoolers. In 2012 she returned from maternity leave as the Executive Director. Having two children go through WCC, Kristy knows the programs from all aspects: parent, teacher, co-teacher and Director. Kristy is committed to WCC families and children. She believes all Vermont children deserve a varied amount of experiences and adventures early in life.
Kristy lives in Braintree with her partner Josh, daughter Lillian, son Wylie and dog Isla. She is passionate about process learning, educational environments and children. When not engaged in those professional pursuits she enjoys the outdoors, gardening, reading, yoga and time with family and friends.
Kelly Longbothum, PK Teaching Associate
This is Kelly Longbothum. She is nearing completion of her studies at the Community College of Vermont, majoring in Early Childhood Education. She has been apart of the Waitsfield Children’s Center’s teaching staff since 2012 and continues to be inspired by the children everyday. She is a member of the Harwood Youth Hockey Association Board of Directors as well as an assistant coach of a local Girls on the Run program. Kelly’s son, Marshall, keeps her busy and entertained with Lacrosse, Hockey, Karate, Skiing and Mountain Biking. She feels lucky to live in the Mad River Valley with so many opportunities to play outdoors all year long.
Siobhan Neale, PK Lead Teacher
Hello! I am Siobhan. I live in Granville with my two children Ira and Corrina. Ira is an artist and Corrina is dancer. I have been teaching at the Children's Center since fall 2014, I joined the school on the same day as Ivy, Eli, Griffin and Corrina. Teaching here is wonderful. My favorite things to do are dress up, face paint, and dance. I like people, especially kids. A lot of the time grown ups forget about having fun but most kids don't have that problem. Life is better if you enjoy it. When I grow up I plan to be a Hollywood movie star, until then I will be teaching here.
Kathryn Finegan, Infant/Toddler Teaching Associate
Kathryn Finegan was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She has lived in Pennsylvania, Vermont, and New Jersey. She has four older brothers. She currently lives in Waitsfield with her Mother and step-father. This past December she graduated from Johnson State College with an Associate’s Degree in Technical Theater. She has been doing Tech Theater since High School and is excited to see where she will go with it in the future. Theater is only one of her passions she also loves to play soccer, dance, sing songs from musicals and quote funny movies or TV shows. In college Katie discovered Zumba and participated in Dance Club which was a lot of fun and helped her meet some of her closest friends. She is thrilled to be working at Waitsfield Children Center with such great staff and kids. She first went to Johnson State to be a second grade teacher. Even though she did not officially become a teacher she is so excited to be a part of the staff at WCC and she enjoys working with all these amazing children! In addition to this wonderful opportunity she will also be working in summer theatre with another great group of people. When she’s not working she enjoys visiting her friends at Johnson or going for walks in the wood behind her house.
